Join my Blog as I introduce you to the Westies I have fostered. While this Blog is all about Westie Rescue, I sometimes wonder who rescued who.
The most important Westies in my life, rescued all, are Lucy, Dougal, Snapple, and Miss Idgy: the Westies that stole my heart.
I am affiliated with Maryland Westie Rescue, a non-profit organization affiliated with the Chesapeake West Highland White Terrier Club. You can find us at http://www.marylandwestierescue.com/ or at http://marylandwestieclub.com/
I invite your comments or to tell your stories.

Vickie,
I love your blog. I got a rescue in the summer of 2006 and Ashley taught me more about healing than I could have ever know otherwise. With him, I also don’t know who rescued who.

I also really like the blog. I rescued a Westie from Maryland Westie Rescue almost a month ago. She is a really wonderful girl, taking care of her makes all of our family happy and she now has a great home (she came from a puppy mill in Iowa). Look forward to hearing more about your wonderful dogs.

Vickie,
I’m thrilled you have started a blog to share your Westie foster and Westie adopted stories!
If you need any of the pictures of Dougal and Lucy that we took when we picked up Mackie from you, just let me know.
Folks, Vickie fostered three of the Westies we have adopted: Annie and Rebel and Mackie.
Rebel was very old and feeble at the time he was dumped at a kill shelter. He had a few good months of security and love before dying. His younger “sister” Annie has blossomed since we adopted her over 18 months ago.
I’ll go post a picture of Annie sitting in one of the office chairs, “helping” me at the desk today.
EVERYONE falls in love with Mackie. He is such a wonderful little spokesman for Westie Rescue…and for Vickie’s talents!
I look forward to enjoying your blog for years to come, Vickie!!

If you are donating to PETA or HSUS, you are not
helping rescued animals. This is something many
rescuers have known about and believed for years.
Here is a good article for your reading pleasure.

Hi, I love reading the stories about the Westie rescues. We adopted Tobiskena (Tobi) over 7 years ago. She was 5 at the time. Her elderly human parents passed away and the family put her into Westie rescue (MA). She is a delight and so loving and loyal. Just like us, she has developed aging problems but they are under control. Good vet care, especially Tufts School of Vet Medicine in North Grafton, MA. I’ll be checking your blog with much interest. I loved your Westie stories. All heartaches and anxieties seem to vanish when I’m with my Westie and around other dogs. Better than Prozac.
Now, can you tell me how I can add Titan’s picture to my comment?

I LOVE Westies. I’ve had 2 in my life and I’ll never have a different breed. I have a wonderful story about my first Westie, but I have to work on wording it correctly so no one gets in trouble.
My Milli is now 8 and whenever I think she should start acting like an old lady, she completely fools me and shows me what a puppy she still is.
I’d love to foster or rescue, but don’t know where to start.
Thanks for being here!

I would like to adopt a young Westie up to l yr old. How do I go about doing this?
I live in Norwood, Ma. Are there any Westie rescue places around here?
June 16, 2009 at 5:45 pm
I would first take a look at http://www.westierescue.com/
That is the national rescue organization. From there you can look at your own state and surrounding states. You can also look at petfinder.com
Good luck and hope you find another furbaby. Vickie

Thank you for your pictures of the beautiful Westies and their stories. Because of a family emergency, I have been away from my Maggie (a Westie) for 2 months now. She is the love of my life so thank you for sharing your pictures and lovables with me! God love you!

You are an angel to rescue those beautiful dogs! I am a retired school teacher and I own a 5 year old Westie, SWEETS. Her vet and I have been managing a case of ATOPY since she was diagnosed at 9 months. Last week she was found to have diabetes. I have already mastered the insulin shots and we are trying to get her stabilized. She is a fun-loving wiggle-worm and of course she has my heart. Do you know of anyone who might help me? I hate to euthanize her just because I don’t have the$. Any response is appreciated.

Sweets sounds like a wonderful pup and it is clear that you love her dearly. I am glad that you are mastering the insulin shots. Many of my friends who have had diabetic Westies have found that the shots are easy to manage with the pup on the grooming table. I hope you will consider contacting MarylandWestieRescue.com or your local small animal rescue before you consider euthanizing Sweets. We have all sorts of resources and can rehome your pup into a place where she would be cared for in a loving manner regardless of her disability. Here’s wishing you and Sweets a long life together. Vickie

My family and I adopted/rescued a Westie from a shelter a little over a year ago and she is the best thing that has happened to us! We named her Olive(from “Olive the Other Reindeer”). I am fairly certain that she “rescued us!” Thank you for rescuing Westies as well!
